BOARD OF EDUCATION: VIRTUAL MEETINGS

Virtual Board of Education Meetings

REGULAR MEETING  PUBLIC PARTICIPATE REQUEST FORM

To ensure efficiency during online meetings, all Public Participation Request Forms must be completed one hour prior to the start of REGULAR board of education meetings.

Please note: There is no formal public participation at special board of education meetings or committee meetings such as finance, policy and governance, and student learning and achievement. However, the public is invited to virtually attend and participate in committee meetings through the features of a Zoom Meeting.

All Board of Education meetings are recorded and available to the public. Any participation, comments or chat contribution become a matter of public record and are subject to release under Ohio law and the federal Freedom of Information Act. As with in-person public participation made during a traditional school board meeting, board members reserve the right to withhold comment or answer questions during the virtual board of education meeting, but will follow up with the speaker at a later time.

Attend a GJPS Board of Education Meeting Online

In response to the Stay at Home Order issued by The Ohio Department of Health from Health Director Acton, the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools (GJPS) Board of Education will meet via video conferencing. This complies with H.B. 197, authorizing public school boards to conduct open meetings using teleconference or other video and electronic technology during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The public is invited to view the live broadcast of the meeting via YouTube. The link to the YouTube meeting will be available at the Gahanna-Jefferson Schools Board of Education Website prior to the start of a meeting.

Public Comment During Regular Board of Education Meetings

The Gahanna-Jefferson Board of Education values its engagement with the community and believes that providing an opportunity for public comment during Regular Board Meetings supports that engagement and provides transparency. Though proving an opportunity for public comment is not a requirement, we would like to continue this practice even while meeting virtually. In the spirit of maintaining this opportunity for our public to participate in these virtual school board meetings, interested persons may submit written public comments via this form. The Board will collect the public participation information up to 1 hour prior to Regular Meetings for inclusion in the meeting.

When submitting your written public participation through the provided form, please keep your comments professional, refrain from using inappropriate language and identifying individuals by name, including GJPS staff or students.

All comments submitted become a matter of public record and are subject to release under Ohio law and the federal Freedom of Information Act. As with in-person public participation made during a traditional school board meeting, board members reserve the right to withhold comment or answer questions during the virtual board of education meeting, but will follow up with the speaker at a later time.

To ensure efficiency during this unique meeting held through video conferencing, all Public Participation Request Forms must be completed 1 hour prior to the start of Regular Board of Education Meetings.
