The Gahanna-Jefferson Education Foundation (GJEF) was
created as a direct result of the leadership and advice of the Gahanna-Jefferson School Business Advisory Council. Through the generous support of $10,000 from the Gahanna Rotary Club and
$5,000 from the Gahanna-Jefferson Area Fund Inc., a financial base was established to further grow the foundation.
Within its initial year, GJEF met all state and
federal requirements to become a 501 (c) (3) non-profit. Accordingly, it recruited a board of directors made up of business professionals and civic
leaders committed to Promoting Excellence in Our Schools.

Gahanna Jefferson Education Foundation Facts
The Gahanna-Jefferson Education Foundation was formed in 2002 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. Its mission is to
Promote Excellence by funding innovative projects beyond the traditional expenditures of the Gahanna-Jefferson Board of Education. The
2012 Celebration of Excellence and Auction event raised more than $110,000; and, similarly, the
2012 Fund-a-Need event raised more than $24,000 in pledges for
iPads for the Classroom. The foundation also provides additional support and resources to address unmet personal needs of students through the
Harvey Mast Care For Kids Program.
Since 2002, thanks to the generosity of Gahanna business partners, area professionals, supportive alumni and concerned community members, GJEF has been able to provide more than $1 million in educational funding to support classroom learning.
Promoting Excellence
• How do we promote excellence? Through a competitive
grant procedure, GJEF has been able to enhance and enrich academic
programs in many areas. To date, more than $450,000 in grants and an
additional $200,000 in donor designated projects and scholarships have
been awarded. An additional $60,000 will be allocated for grants
in November 2012.
• How do we fund our projects? The GJEF hosts an annual Celebration of Excellence,
which is an evening of fun and fundraising. The GJEF has committed
two-thirds of the proceeds to the grants program and one-third for investments to create an endowment.
• Where do we go from here? As we look to the future, GJEF
will continue to provide competitive grants, as well as exploring
options that will allow individuals to make additional donations in
support of specific academic programs or scholarships. We are committed
to build upon the positive business partnership connection thus far, and
we will continue to recruit enthusiastic volunteers in support of our
mission of Promoting Excellence.
