Band celebrates 23rd annual all-district jazz festival
The 23rd annual all-district jazz festival will take place March 14 at 7 p.m., with special guest Jamey Aebersold! The concert will feature performances by the LHS Jazz Bands I & II, and the Middle School East, West and South Jazz Bands, directed by Kelly Shellhammer.
Aebersold will be a featured performer with Gahanna Lincoln High School’s Jazz Band I. He spent the day prior to the concert working with the high school jazz bands on jazz improvisation. He also taught clinics for students at the middle schools and high school
Mr. Aebersold is a music educator, publisher, and internationally renowned saxophonist and authority on improvisation. Hailing from Indiana, he holds a Master’s degree in saxophone from Indiana University and has been inducted into the International Association of Jazz Educators Hall of Fame.
In 2014, Jamey was awarded The National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award, the nation's highest honor in jazz. Jamey Aebersold was also the recipient of the 2014 A.B. Spellman NEA Jazz Masters Award for Jazz Advocacy, which is bestowed upon an individual who has contributed significantly to the appreciation, knowledge, and advancement of the art form of jazz.
Jamey has been a driving force in America's native art form, Jazz, and continues to kindle the fires of musical imagination in those with whom he comes in contact.
