GLHS forensics team qualifies several students to state contest

The GLHS speech and debate students recorded a successful state speech and debate finals performance at Berea-Midpark High School last weekend!

According to advisor Mrs. Leslie Muhlbach, approximately 900 students from more than 90 schools around the state gathered for the tournament. Gahanna Lincoln finished in the top-20 as a team, and second in their district behind Sylvania Southview.

The following students competed through quarter finals in their respective events: 
  • Sarah Nance (Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking) 
  • Courtney Oppong (Original Oratory)  
  • Sreekar Miriyala (Student Congressional Debate) 
  • Jordan Kulis (Student Congressional Debate) 
  • Micah Muhlbach (Humorous Interpretation)

Courtney Owens was named the State Champion in Program Oral Interpretation. Courtney is Gahanna's first State Champion since 2009!

“We are so very proud of this young team and the seniors who are leading our program to great new heights as top contenders,” Muhlbach said.

Gahanna will be well represented at the National Tournament finals in Birmingham, Ala. this June:

  • Courtney Oppong (Original Oratory) 
  • Micah Muhlbach (Humorous Interpretation) 
  • Sarah Nance (1st Alternate)
  • Courntey Owens (1st Alternate)
