Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools is excited and proud to welcome Cliff Hetzel as the District’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO). His first day in the District is January 30.

As the COO for GJPS, Hetzel will oversee all operations efforts for the District. This includes construction, facilities, custodial, grounds, transportation, food service and technology.

Hetzel comes to GJPS from Hilliard City Schools, where he has served as the Chief Operating Officer since 2014. He understands the importance of maintaining District facilities and grounds and being a responsible steward of taxpayer dollars. During his time in Hilliard, he focused on cost savings, energy efficiency, streamlining processes, supporting operations staff and establishing goals for operational excellence. Most recently, Hetzel was recognized by the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) for his outstanding work and received the 2023 Outstanding Business Operations Manager of the Year award, proving his strong track record of finding savings in construction projects, supporting staff and aligning operations teams with student outcomes.

Before his time with Hilliard City Schools, Hetzel was the Business Manager for Reynoldsburg City Schools for two years, operated his own corporation as an Investment Advisor Representative for seven years and spent time leading business operations at Worthington City Schools and Marysville Exempted Village Schools for a combined six years.

Hetzel has a Master of Business Administration from Ashland University and a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management from Ohio State University. In addition, he earned a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth and has Project Leadership and Business Analytics certifications from Cornell University.
