Counselor: Mrs. Monica Baker
Phone: (614) 478-5545
Hi! My name is Monica Baker. I am the elementary guidance counselor for High Point and Royal Manor Elementary schools. I have a Master's degree in Guidance and School Counseling. Prior to counseling, I taught sixth grade at Middle School West for 13 years.
Our elementary guidance program is a preventative program that focuses on life skills that help the students to be better problem solvers, learners and all around thinkers. I conduct classroom guidance lessons in all classes, in addition to holding small group and individual counseling sessions as needed. Some of the topics that are discussed are strategies for anger management, character education, using problem solving models that lead to win-win solutions, making good decisions, goal setting, handling peer pressure and bullying situations, and the connection of school to future career work.
An important component of my job is working with parents. As we all know, being a parent is one of the toughest, but most important job we will ever have. I have many resources that I would be glad to share. I am also available to conference with parents to help in anyway that I can.
Another aspect of my job is working collaboratively with the teachers and other school personnel to provide an environment that is conducive to learning for all students. As a part of this partnership, I am a member of the intervention team. The purpose of this team is to provide suggestions and devise action plans to help students to have the best learning experience possible.
I am at High Point Elementary two and one half days per week on A, B and D days, and Royal Manor Elementary on A, C and E days. Please feel free to contact the school office if I can assist you in anyway. I look forward to working with you and your child.
