Philosophy
The opportunities, responsibilities and needs of each individual in today's society necessitate that education provides learning opportunities to help each student maximize personal knowledge and achievement and to learn behavior patterns that will make him/her a responsible member of an ever-changing society.
The Guidance Department is an integral component of education. It addresses activities that promote system-wide goals directed to student decision-making.
Our Guidance program is set up to meet with your student individually two times per year for grades 10-12. The freshmen students are set up to meet with their respective counselor three times individually during that year. This aggressive schedule allows the counselors to establish an early and very thorough rapport with their students throughout their high school experience.
The following calendar identifies the Guidance Counselor Program of Meetings. Students can additionally sign up to see their counselor at anytime. Counselors attempt to call students down within 24 hours.

Career Planning
Are you looking for a way to motivate and excite your student about future career opportunities?
If you said "YES," then you need to enroll them in the Exploring Program. This is an after-school career education program (practically free) designed for high school students ages 14-20. Students can participate in programs in the engineering, architecture, veterinary medicine, broadcasting, art, law, fire/emergency services, law enforcement, aviation, culinary, sports marketing and medical fields.
Students will gain practical knowledge in a career, enhance their leadership skills, build relationships with working professionals, and have the chance to meet students from a variety of high schools in the area. For more information, please visit the Exploring Program Web site at www.skcbsa.org/exploring.
Sign-up and Open Houses for the various programs will begin in August and September. Contact guidance counselor Bernie Hahn for more information.
Post-secondary enrollment options (PSEO) program
PSEO is an educational option for high school students who qualify to take courses through colleges and universities. To participate in the program for the 2011-12 school year, the student and one parent must attend the meeting scheduled for February 14, 2011 (see above Parent Meetings). This meeting is required by Ohio Revised Code. The student must also meet specific admission requirements. For additional information about PSEO, please contact your student's guidance counselor.
