Dear GJPS families,

You may have heard that our teachers union is considering a strike. It is unfortunate and premature that they chose this action, as we still have three more sessions of mediation planned. Like you, we are surprised and deeply concerned about this situation, and we are moving swiftly to respond.

We have been diligent in working over the past several months to address their concerns, while preserving the best elements of our hybrid and distance learning models we believe will best serve the educational needs of our students. It is important for you to know that district leaders are hopeful we can resolve the differences with our teachers without a strike.

We are firmly committed to assuring the best education we can provide our students, within the constraints of the pandemic. It remains our intention to return to our buildings and start the hybrid learning plan on October 13.

Our conversations with our teachers are ongoing and finding a compromise continues to be our goal. We hope that our teachers do not choose to strike and instead choose to continue our conversation toward resolution.

We are grateful for your patience and understanding during this time.

Sincerely,

Steve Barrett
Superintendent
Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools
