To our Gahanna-Jefferson school community,

Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools (GJPS) Board of Education and the Gahanna-Jefferson Education Association (GJEA) have reached a tentative agreement that will bring our teachers back to the classroom and to our students. We are grateful both sides were able to come to a compromise in mediation and achieve resolution.

We are pleased with the resolution and with the mutual commitment that got us to this important conclusion. The last few weeks have been challenging, and we deeply regret the disruptions that were created in our school community.

Now we start our work together again – and we must begin with collaboration. There will be more plans to finalize and details to share in the coming days, and we will come together for the benefit of our students, our families and our community.

Assuming this agreement is ratified by the GJEA and approved by the GJPS board of education on Sunday October 18, students will return to distance learning with our Gahanna teachers on Monday, October 19. Under the agreement in-person hybrid learning will begin October 26 for grades PreK-5 and grades 9-12, and November 2 for grades 6-8 to allow for schedule changes. More details will follow Sunday evening, October 18.

Both the administration and the teachers will be firmly focused on our students, our return to classrooms, and a shared path forward for equitable learning and the high-quality education our GJPS students deserve.

Sincerely,

Steve Barrett
Superintendent
