Dear GJPS families, teachers and staff,

Today, the Ohio Department of Health and Governor DeWine announced that Franklin County is now “purple” on the state’s alert system. Franklin County Public Health and the City of Columbus Public Health issued a health advisory that begins on Friday, November 20th at 6 p.m. for Franklin County. This advisory includes guidance for schools to continue in current learning models and discontinue extracurricular activities until December 18. GJPS will continue with our current models of hybrid learning and distance learning for November 20, 23 and 24, leading up to the Thanksgiving break.

As we plan for learning when we return from break, November 30 and beyond, we will carefully evaluate public health guidance, current positive cases in our district, staffing levels, substitute availability, quarantine numbers of students and staff, the quality of instruction, and student and staff safety. We will also consider athletics and extracurricular activities and make a determination for next steps. Our goal is to closely consider the data and make an informed decision about our next steps, while giving our school community as much notice of any changes as possible.

We appreciate your patience as we work to make the best decisions within the constraints and challenges of our current situation.

Sincerely

Steve Barrett
