Dear Gahanna-Jefferson families and staff,

Our district leaders and our teachers have been collaborating to find solutions for our approach to student learning on inclement weather days. To better communicate across the school community, GJPS and GJEA, working together, revised our plans for student learning when buildings are not open due to inclement weather. For the remainder of this school year, when inclement weather is expected:

  • The district will send an automated call and text message to staff and parents/guardians informing them of the anticipated inclement weather and signaling that a remote day of learning is possible.
  • On inclement weather days, the group of GJPS students who were to be in-person for their school day (including high school distance learners by color group) will instead transition to a day of remote learning. This remote learning day will begin 30 minutes later for students.
  • Those students who are not scheduled to be in-person on the inclement weather day will continue with their asynchronous work (K-12) or distance learning (K-8) as normal.

Principals and teachers will communicate school start times and other schedule adjustments to students and families.

We hope all of you have a safe weekend.

Sincerely,

Steve Barrett
Superintendent
